Robertson County News is heading to West, Texas

As the tragic events unfold across the morning media, residents of West, Texas are finding themselves in a state of shock and organized chaos. Local volunteer firefighters in West responded to a fire a at a local fertilizer plant — 30 minutes later an explosion that register a 2.1 on the Richter scale. The impact blast has leveled complete residential blocks of homes. The Robertson County News plans to depart Hearne and head to West in relief effort to assist with water, clothes, bedding and canned food. If you would like to contribute, we have a large enclosed trailer and are collecting needed supplies at the Robertson County News office — 120 W. Third St. in downtown Hearne. Items requested are: • Canned Food • Water • Clothing • Bedding • Stuffed toys for the kids All in all it has been estimated that 60 homes in total have been destroyed leaving the small town devastated and residents homeless. Like Hurricane Katrina, the frost 24 hours is the most crucial for assistance, so if you would like to help, please call the newspaper or just bring in your donated items. Currently the numbers are a bit loose, but an estimated 15 dead and 179 hospitalized including residents from a closely located nursing home.
