Calvert’s Trojan Horse

Tiffany Williams and Lakendra Mosley will be representing the Trojans at State.

When you think of a "Trojan" horse, she definitely wouldn't be the one who came to mind. Standing all of 5'4" and weighing in at 110 pounds, she 's not exactly an imposing figure. But looks can be deceiving sometimes, meet Calvert’s Trojan Horse, Tiffany Williams. The Junior at Calvert was All-District in Volleyball, and Basketball. She was second Team All-Regional in Basketball, but these are not her best sport.

Her best sport is Track and her specialty is the 400-meter run. She ran 58 second 400's as a seventh and eighth grader. She went to the Nationals in summer track, finishing fourth overall. A serious knee injury in basketball sidelined her during her freshman year and she missed the track season.

After a year’s lay-off, and running with a protective brace as a sophomore, she managed to get all the way to Regionals before bowing out and finishing fourth in the 400-meter. This season has seen a return to her early form and though she's not quite at 100% yet, the competitor she was has returned. At the District Meet she won the 100, 200 and 400-meter races and the long jump to win high point honors in District. She followed that up last week by duplicating the feat winning the 100, 200, 400, and long jump and lowering her times in each event.

In Regional Finals, in Kingville, Lakeydra Mosley took first in the 100 while Williams took second. Roles were reversed in the 200 with Williams taking the gold and Mosley grabbing the silver. In the 400 Williams took her second gold of the day. Mosley and Williams will be traveling to UIL State track competitions and representing the Trojans on May 10 in Austin.
