Re’Jana Ellison soars into State track championships

Coach Smith cheers Re’Jana on as she tries to break her personal record.

Laura Chesner Staff Writer Re”jana Ellison will be going to the UIL State Track and Field championships in Austin this year. This will be the fourth year she has gone, a feat never before accomplished in Hearne Eagles history. As a freshman, Ellison placed third in the 100 and 200-meter dash. Her sophomore year, she repeated her performance in the 100 and 200 and also picked up fourth in long jump. Last year she placed third in the 200-meter, fifth in the long jump and sixth in the 100-meter. You could say that she has accumulated some heavy medal over the years. This year, Ellison has already qualified to compete in the 100-meter, 200-meter and the 400-meter dash. Her qualifying times are record-setting for Hearne High School and her coaches expect her to come home with at least one medal. “She’s been running non-stop and practicing hard,” said Coach Clinton Smith. “We know that Re’Jana will do well and I can’t wait to cheer her on in Austin,” Coach Fondell Adams remarked. Ellison will be competing in Austin on May 11 at the Mike Myers complex.
