Re’Jana Ellison soars into State track championships
Laura Chesner Staff Writer [email protected] Re”jana Ellison will be going to the UIL State Track and Field championships in Austin this year. This will be the fourth year she has gone, a feat never before accomplished in Hearne Eagles history. As a freshman, Ellison placed third in the 100 and 200-meter dash. Her sophomore year, she repeated her performance in the 100 and 200 and also picked up fourth in long jump. Last year she placed third in the 200-meter, fifth in the long jump and sixth in the 100-meter. You could say that she has accumulated some heavy medal over the years. This year, Ellison has already qualified to compete in the 100-meter, 200-meter and the 400-meter dash. Her qualifying times are record-setting for Hearne High School and her coaches expect her to come home with at least one medal. “She’s been running non-stop and practicing hard,” said Coach Clinton Smith. “We know that Re’Jana will do well and I can’t wait to cheer her on in Austin,” Coach Fondell Adams remarked. Ellison will be competing in Austin on May 11 at the Mike Myers complex.
