Congratulations to Ty Anderson on winning Cupcake Wars with her fabulous cupcakes.

Mrs. Nelson likes to challenge her students in FCCLA every day. She knows that her students are up to big challenges and she likes to make every day of class fun. This year, her culinary arts class, finished off the year with a cupcake battle royale - based on the Food Network’s epic cupcake battle, Cupcake Wars.

Students had some time during the week to prepare their menu, choose recipes and design their cupcakes. On the day of the contest, each contestant was given a specific amount of time to make, bake and decorate three cupcakes each for two judges. The students were then brought before the judges one-by-one to present their cupcake creations.

“Each student did very well,” said Ms. Tyrone, secretary to Principal Wells and a guest judge. Some students tried to wow with creative decorations, like Freddy Hernandez’ triple layered cupcake with blue ribbon icing named, “the rising tsunami.” Others went with creative styles of cupcake like Ty Anderson’s pineapple upside down cupcake or Victor Mendoza’s lemon cupcake that included micro planed Lemonheads candy in the icing. Others attempted to wow with fabulous flavors like Richard Quinn’s simply delicious yellow cupcake with vanilla icing. It was a simple cupcake that kept the judges talking throughout the competition.

The final results were difficult to come up with as the judges enjoyed they delicious contenders. Ty Anderson came in first with her Oreo, Red Velvet Swirl and Pineapple upside down cupcakes. Victor Mendoza came in second with his Lemon Surprise, Rocky Road and Mint Chocolate Chip cupcakes. Last, but certainly not least, was Carlos Stewart’s Cinnamon, 3-Layer Surprise and ChocolateX3 cupcakes.

Judges award from the guest judge from the Robertson County News go to Richard Quinn for most delicious single cupcake and Freddy Hernandez for most exciting decorations.
