Centerville next on Hearne’s List
The Eagles hope the week they spent resting, retooling and refocusing will pay off this week against he Centerville Tigers. The Tigers are ranked again this season and are off to a 4-0 start. Centerville went undefeated in regular season in 2012 and many think the Tigers will repeat that effort. Along with Crawford, they are again the favorites to win 11-2A.
For Hearne, the task will be to hang on to the ball and score points when they do. McGrew, Castilleja, Satchell, Workman, and company will have their hands full moving the ball against a Centerville defense, anchored by All-District Nose Guard Kevin Gonzalez, that has been very stingy in their games this season. In addition the Eagle defense will be tested like it was against Franklin in the opener. Running Backs Tully Pickens and Blake Payne are very explosive and benefit from a veteran offensive line led All-State prospect Kurtis Parker.
The Tigers offense returns with enough other weapons to keep any defense busy. Adam Boxley, Keston Castle, Devanta Jefferson and the rest of the Eagles will have to come up big Friday night if Hearne is to have any chance. Up to now Coach Smith has chosen to platoon some of his players but that may end as district starts and their presence is needed on that side of the ball. The Eagle Staff will definite be evaluating their options. It’s game on now and every game matters in District.
