Calvert Football; For all the marbles

It all comes down to this game and now there’s no next week.  The District Title in District 16-Division II Six-Man, all comes down to a winner take all match up this Friday night in Calvert.  The contest between the Milford Bulldogs and Calvert Trojans figures to be a dynamite game.  Both teams are 2-0 in district play and both are fresh off mercy rule wins. Milford against Karnack 51-6 and Calvert over Trinidad 62-6.  Milford owned this matchup last season in Milford beating Calvert soundly in Milford after a close first half.

This 2013 version of the Trojans looks to be more capable of taking on the challenge that they could not last season as youngsters. Milford was sluggish early on in the year, getting forty-fived by Abbott and losing to Genova in their opener. They have rebounded since winning their last 7 games, mercy ruling each opponent. Their offense has been prolific, scoring a district high 482 points.

Milford returned all but 1 starter from last season’s playoff squad. Led by quarterback Eric Evans 41-60 for 789 yards passing and the running of Jacobe Essary 83 carries for 1426 yards and 29 touchdowns they have maintained their excellence on offense. Slowing them down will be no easy task for Calvert’s defense. However, the 2013 Trojans are much improved and should be a more formidable opponent for the Bulldogs.  Standing at 8-0, Calvert needs only to dispose of Milford to cap a perfect regular season.

The Trojan offense has steadily improved this season and put together their most complete game against Trinidad last week.  The running of JaMickel Fletcher, DeRodney Thomas, Xavier Laury and Zacchaeus Williams has been dominating.  Quarterback Jaquan Thompson has shown ability to not only run but also complete passes to William Golden, Taron Gipson and Xavier Laury. Defense is the area of most improvement for Calvert.

Their play has had a lot to do with the team’s success.  DeCorrius Chopp, Gipson, Golden, Laury, Thomas, and Anthony Jones have proven stout.  But now it all comes down to this, Friday night 7:30, Wilkerson Field, in Calvert “For All The Marbles”.
