A most impressive start
The Franklin Lions kept right on rolling in District play as they routed the Hearne Eagles by the score of 84-45 to improve to 4-0 in district play. The Lions of Coach Reed, wasted little time in dispelling any hopes the Eagles had in the game. It was an overall great team effort by the Lions on both ends of the court. The Lions received balanced scoring from its 5 starters and as well as their bench players to hold off the Eagles. Michael Witherspoon and Dylan Elliott both led the Lions with 15, while Zack Short had his best night shooting from behind the 3-point line hitting three. The Lions defense which has been sound all year, proved stout again on this night holding the Eagles to 30 points in the game. With this type of effort it is easy to see why the Lions are the favorites to win the district championship and advance come playoff time.
The Lions entertained the Trinity Tigers at Franklin on Friday. The Tigers came in tied for 1st place with the Lions but were no match for Franklin. Trinity had no answer for Michael Witherspoon, who scored 36 on the night, including going 16 of 23 from the free throw line. Backed by his play, the Lions cruised to a 72-54 decisive win to move to 5-0 in district and 18-3 on the year. Will Phillips added 14, Dylan Elliott 6, Ian Knight 5, Zack Short 2, Jacob Dorsett 3, Adam Lopez 2,and Hughes 4, rounded out the scoring on the night for Franklin.
