Big week for the Lady Tigers
After losing a district match up against Mart last Friday, the Bremond Lady Tigers traveled to Chilton on Tuesday to play the Lady Pirates. Standing at 1-2 in district, the Lady Tigers are in the thick of the race for a playoff spot. They trail Chilton 2-1, Mart 2-1, and tied with Bosqueville 1-2, with all 4 teams chasing unbeaten Axtell at 3-0.
As they have done most of the season the Lady Tigers started slowly against the Lady Pirates and searched for some rhythm as the game played out. Chilton capitalized on being at home to hold off the Lady Tigers in a key district match up. Overall it was a rough night for Rhyniesccea Paul, Taylor Anderson, McKenzie Curry, Alyssa Bienski, and Bailey Settle, as they tried to keep the Lady Tigers close. In the end the Lady Pirates prevailed and dropped to 1-3 with district leading Axtell coming to town.
With a distinct height disadvantage coming in the Bremond Lady Tigers needed to shoot well and take care of the ball against the visiting Axtell Lady Longhorns. It happened, Rhyniesccea Paul and Taylor Anderson scored early and often against the taller Axtell squad off steals and despite being dominated on the boards, the Lady Tigers led by 3 at the half. In the 2nd half Axtell scored some easy baskets inside using their size and held off a stubborn Lady Tigers team for a hard fought 52-48 win. The Bremond defense kept the Lady Tigers in the game as Makayla Hoffpauir, Alyssa Bienski, Paul, and Anderson all had key steals and made big shots to keep Bremond close. In the end a couple of turnovers and a big 3-point shot by Axtell, stopped the Lady Tigers comeback attempt. It was a tough loss at home for the Lady Tigers and dropped them to 1-3 in district.
Bremond will host Waco Meyer Tuesday and travel to Bosqueville on Friday.
