Sophie Ann Wilganowski Budzisz, 82, of Bremond, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Hospice Brazos Valley in Bryan. A visitation was held Sunday, March 23, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with rosary that began at 7:00 p.m., both at Bremond Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was held Monday, March 24, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bremond with interment that followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Services were officiated by Father Celso Yu. Pallbearers were Bernie Wilganowski, Kie Wierzbicki Jr., David Wilganowski, Steven Budzisz, Johnny Ray Wilganowski, and Charles Wilganowski. Honorary Pallbearers were John Paul Budzisz, and Richard Budzisz.

Sophie was born in Marlin, Texas, January 7, 1932 to Bill and Catherine Kuzniarek Wilganowski. She began her schooling in the McClanahan community. She graduated from St. Mary’s Parochial School in Bremond, Texas. She married Joe Marion Budzisz on November 22, 1952 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Sophie loved God, her church and family; cooking, flower gardening, and embroidery. She especially loved large family gatherings for all occasions.

Sophie was preceded in death by her husband and parents; brother, Raymond Wilganowski, and sister-in-law, Petronella Budzisz Wilganowski.

Survivors include her sons, Joe Jr. and wife, Cheryl Restivo Budzisz of College Station; Chester Budzisz of Houston; Larry Budzisz, and Andrew Budzisz, both of Bremond; daughters, Mary Eliot and Sandra Burke, both of Bremond; brother, Antone Wilganowski of Bryan; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Anne Galick Wilganowski of Katy; Bernard and Shirley Malinowski Wilganowski of Houston; sister and brother-in-law, Cecilia and Kie Wierzbicki of Fort Worth; sister-in-law, Helen Grych Wilganowski of Bremond; 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, numerous other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Memorial donations in Sophie’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bremond or to Hospice Brazos Valley, Bryan, Texas.

Arrangements are entrusted to Bremond Funeral Home in Bremond.
