This past Saturday the first SSG Scott Burgess Memorial Walk/Run was held at the Franklin Ranch. The proceeds of the run fund a scholarship for Franklin High School Seniors.

Scott was killed in Afghanistan while serving the Army during Operation Enduring Freedom on April 4th, 2011. He left behind a wife, and two daughters, along with many other loved family and friends. Having this run each year will allow our community to take a time of remembrance of our hometown hero and the ultimate sacrifice he gave for our country.

Our generous sponsors including, The Gym, Wilson Livestock Services, Stacey Reynolds Photography, M3T Photography, Ryan and Logan Kyle, Gilbert and Teresa Vela, Gary and Mindy Turner, and BCS Trophy made this event possible.

Justin Bowen came in first in the men’s division followed by Coty Siegert, and Paul Herring. Sara Huggins came in first in the women’s division followed by Kristi Rogers, and Tonya Baker.

The awards for placing in the divisions were gym memberships donated by Bear Moore, owner of The Gym.

The participation in the first memorial walk/run was a success! Save the date for April 4, 2015 for the 2nd annual SSG Scott Burgess Memorial walk/run 5k! For any questions regarding the scholarship or next year’s 5k please email [email protected].
