It was a tough week leading up to the District Track Meet in Caldwell on Wednesday for the Calvert Lady Trojans. Injuries and defections left them searching to put together a supporting cast for their two defending State Champions. Raquel Wortham and Tinece Williams both suffered knee injuries that could sideline them for the District Meet. Wortham appears close to returning but time will tell how effective she will be. The recent injury to Tinece Williams is more significant, as it puts the 4 x 100 meter relay and the 4 x 400 meter relay in jeopardy.  The Lady Trojans will regroup on Wednesday and begin their run toward a State Title.

Tiffany Williams and Lakeydra Mosley did their parts as the Lady Trojans qualified in 4 events each for the Area meet next week. Williams pulled off an amazing triple in the Meet.  She won the 800, 400 and 200-meter runs giving her 7 District Titles in the past 2 seasons. She has now won the 100, 200, 400, and 800 in the District.  In the 800 meters she defeated the defending State Champion from Dime Box, Cheyenne Shed, cruising to a 2:21 and winning by 20 meters. in the 400 she ran uncontested to a 58:9 and won by 25 meters. In the 200 she outlasted teammate Lakeydra Mosley to win in 26:18.  She also finished 2nd behind Mosley in the long jump. Mosley won the 100 meters in 12.3, won the long jump, finished 2nd to Williams in the 200, and ran a leg on the 4 x 400 meter relay that finished 2nd. Raquel Wortham won the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet 6 inches, anchored the 4 x 100 meter relay to a 2nd place finish, and finished 3rd in the long jump, before tweaking her hamstring in the 100 meters. Nakevia Drones, LaQueeda Walker and Cydnei Wells all stepped in and performed well on the two relay teams and Keosha Eddington got 2nd in the Shot put and Essence Gilmore finished 5th.

It was a strong performance from the 8 Lady Trojans, as they came within 2 points of winning the District, finishing 2nd behind the Round Top Carmine Lady Cubs. Up next will be the Area Championships in Lampasas on the 16th.
