Crusaders Track Club advances to nationals

The Crusaders Track Club, whose head Coach is Bill Jones, had a great summer this year. This team consists of children ranging from ages of four to sixteen. The kids participated in various track meets throughout the summer, and had nine members that advanced to the TAAF Games of Texas State Track and Field Meet, that were held in College Station July 30-August 3, 2014.

Abbigail Miller, Aneise Pierce, Jessica Shilling, Faith Walton are the young ladies that advanced. Jeremy Burns, Tyrese Day, Timothy Demeritt Jr., Devonte’Jones, and Larry Smith are the young men that advanced.

Abbigail competed in the 800-meter run, and finished twenty-seventh overall out of 36 competitors, with a time of 2:49. Aneise ran both the 400, and 800-meter races. Her times were 1:21, and 3:04 respectively. She finished fourth overall in the 800. Jessica participated in the 300-meter hurdles. Faith ran the 3200-meter race, and finished fourteenth overall with a personal record of 13:02.

As for the boys, Jeremy threw the shot put and threw his personal best of 21 feet and 4 inches. Tyrese ran the 100 and 200-meter dashes. His times were 12.18 and 25.4 respectively. He finished twenty-first and twenty-third overall. Larry hit the track in the 200-meter dash. Devonte’ participated in the long jump, 110, and 300-meter hurdles. Timothy long jumped, ran the 100, 200, and 400-meter dashes. His times are as follows, 11.78, 23.81, and a personal record of 52.68 respectively. Timothy Demeritt Jr., who will be a freshman in high school at Milano High, is the first member of the Crusaders Track Club to have advanced to the national level. Timothy will be competing in the Games of America, next summer, which are being held in Lincoln, Nebraska.

All of the Crusaders worked hard this summer, acc the coaches and parents are very proud.
