Louis Steve Rekieta

Louis Steve Rekieta of Bremond, Texas passed away at Crossroads Nursing Home in Hearne, Texas on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the age of 93 years old. He was born on January 15, 1923 in Bremond, Texas to Lucas and Mary Rekieta. He attended Box Center School. Louis was a self-employed Rancher and Farmer. He was also a WWII veteran. Louis married Clara Ann Szymanski on November 24, 1951 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bremond. He was a lifelong resident of Bremond and a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church. Louis was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is preceded in death by his parents; Lucas and Mary Rekieta, son; Ronnie Rekieta, Brothers; Bruno, Frank, John, Ike, Ed, Stash Rekieta, and Sisters; Helen Wierzbicki and Annie Dutka.

Rebecca “Becky” Loretta Strelec

Rebecca “Becky” Loretta Strelec, 49 passed away Friday, January 1, 2016, New Years Day at the Franklin Nursing Home. Services for Becky were held on Monday, January 4, 2016. Visitation was from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 pm. at Heartfield- Ritter Funeral Home. Graveside services were held Tuesday, January 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Calvert, Texas. Becky Strelec was born June 9, 1966 in Calvert, Texas to Willie and Doris Meier Strelec. She graduated from Calvert High School and worked for Dentist Dr. Bicker W. Cain Jr. Becky was a member of the Baptist Church in Calvert, Texas. Little did I know what was about to unfold. As you lay your precious head down to sleep, your body was tired and weary. The Lord whispered in your ear, “Becky, it’s time.” Even though my heart is heavy, my eyes filled with tears. We will always be together even in death. Till we see you at the Pearly Gates, may you rest in peace “My Sweet Sister” We love you forever. After all I should not be sad.

Ralph “Smiley” Martinez

Ralph “Smiley” Martinez born on August 26, 1969 in Hearne, Texas to Alice Martinez and the late Alejandro Martinez passed from this life peacefully at his home at the age of 46, on January 13, 2016. All who knew him will miss Ralph’s boisterous personality and Big Smile. Visitation for Ralph was held at All Families Mortuary Friday, January 15, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Services were held at the Christian Faith Center Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Becky Hoffpauir officiating with a graveside prayer following the services at San Jose Cemetery Hearne, Texas. Ralph is preceded in death by his father; Alejandro Martinez, Grandmother: Isadora G. Martinez, Aunt; Martha Robles, Cousins; Victor Lara and Melissa Martinez. Survivors include his loving wife; Samantha Martinez, Stepsons; Juan Rodriquez Jr.

Jack Whitlow

Jack Whitlow, 79, passed away peacefully in his home on December 21, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born in Bryan, Texas on April 10, 1936 to T B and Louise Sisson Whitlow. Jack was a graduate of Baylor University in Waco, Texas with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art. He was employed with Austin Engraving in Waco as a commercial artist. He later worked for Texas A&M Press and for the Houston Chronicle. He later moved to Virginia where he was self-employed as a fine artist at Artists-at-Work and the D’ Art Center in Norfolk. He received numerous awards and recognition for his artistic talent. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Hearne, Texas and after moving to Waco became a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church where he served on and coordinated the student bus ministry. He is survived by a sister; Jane Brewer of Virginia Beach and niece; Jacqueline Johnson and her husband Kevin of Carthage, Missouri.

David “Butch” Scott

David “Butch” Scott, age 68, of Bryan, formerly of West, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015 in College Station. A rosary was recited at 4:00 p.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with visitation to follow until 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Butch was born April 8, 1947 in Waco, the son of Tal and Margaret (Gerik) Scott. He attended St. Mary’s School and was a 1965 graduate of West High School. Butch received his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Baylor University in 1973. On August 1, 1967, he was united in marriage to Lou Conner in Amarillo. Butch served his country in the United States Air Force. He worked his entire life in auto sales at Scott Chevrolet in West, Bolton Chevrolet in West, John McLaren Chevrolet in McGregor and Derek Scott Auto Park in Hearne.
