John W. “Tank” McCarver III

John W. “Tank” McCarver III, 53, of Hearne, Texas, was born March 21, 1963 and passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan, Texas. John was a correctional officer with TDCJ as a LT. for 14 years and a car sales man for 16 years, at various dealerships around the Brazos valley. He was preceded in death by his father; John W. McCarver Jr., and brother Raymond “Bubba” McCarver. He is survived by his mother; Raymer Mc-Carver of Hearne, wife; Teresa Favors McCarver of Hearne, daughter; Amanda Zaye McCarver of Hearne, son; John “Bo” McCarver IV and wife Candice Tinnell of Hearne, brothers; Shannon Mc-Carver and Michael McCarver Sr., six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was held at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne, Texas. Funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Five Points Baptist Church in Hearne, Texas.

Tyler Cole Mitchell

Tyler Cole Mitchell was born on December 31, 2002 in College Station, Texas to Randy and Kelly Mitchell and big brother Garrett. He joined his dad in heaven in the early morning hours of May 30, 2016. He is preceded in death by his devoted father; Randy Mitchell, his Grandfather; Joe Mitchell, Great Grand Mother; Gladys Neyland, his Great Aunt and Uncle; Baylor and Glenice Carrington.

Lavelle Mae Hall

Lavelle Hall, aged 80 died peacefully on May 25, 2016 at home in Newport Beach, CA surrounded by her children after a struggle with cancer. Lavelle was born October 8, 1935 in Hereford, Texas. Lavelle was a member of the Hearne Baptist Church and The Joy of Living Bible Study where she had many friends. She volunteered at the George Bush Library for 5 years, loved cooking, gardening, the outdoors and her cattle ranch. Lavelle was preceded in death by her generous and loving parents, David Edgar Beller and Zora Mae Beller (Shofner) and by her older sister, Joy Waneen Beller Ragsdale Van Keuren. She is survived by her two adult children: daughter; Teresa Kaye Hall, and son; James Brant Hall, her grandchildren; Britnie Minor, David Hall and Brant Miller Hall, great grandchildren; Triston Minor, Kaidin Minor, Ryder Hall and Rhilynn Hall and many much-loved nieces, cousins and friends. Knowing and loving her family and friends was the success story of her life.

Michael “Mikie” Toups

Michael Paul “Mikie” Toups lost his hard fought battle with cancer on May 19, 2016 at his home in Hearne, Texas. Michael was born the son of Milton and Ann Toups in Beaumont, Texas on March 19, 1945. He was preceded in death by his biological parents; Milton and Ann Toups and also by his precious stepmother that raised him, Babe Ruth Ayer. He is survived by his wife of 38 years; Catherine Reagan Toups, and his daughter; Ursula Jones of Nashville, TN. Michael was a self-employed trucker, a bar owner and was previously an engineer for Brown and Root in Houston. He went to school in Alice, Texas and always remembered his friends there as his special friends, as well as his Hearne buddies. Services were held at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne, Texas on Saturday, May 21 with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and services followed at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will be held at Bald Prairie Cemetery at a later date.

Josephine Lara Ruiz

Josephine Lara Ruiz, born September 18, 1931, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her husband; George R. Ruiz, her son; Jimmy Ruiz, Parents; Jesse and Juanita Lara, brothers; Jesse Lara Jr., Herman Lara and Son-in-law; Alfonso Castilleja Jr. She is survived by her children; Martha Castilleja, Rose Castilleja (Rudy), Mary Cortez (Johnny), Jimmy G. Ruiz (Emelia), Georgia Jutson (Ronnie), John Ruiz (Anna), and Stephen Ruiz (Diana), 24 Grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. Visitation was held Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne, Texas. Rosary followed at 6:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hearne, Texas. Services to be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Thursday, May 26, 2015 with internment at St. Jose Cemetery.

Catherine Taylor Minnitt “Kitty Cat”

A blessed event took place on July 23, 1940, a bouncing baby girl born to Hardee Taylor and Cleopatra Taylor in Hammond, Texas and the name given was Catherine Taylor. Catherine joined the Shilo Primitive Church at an early age under Pastor W.R. Pettie. Catherine worked many jobs but the one she loved the best was taking care of people. She went to school at Evergreen School on Hammond, Texas. Catherine worked many years at the Calvert Nursing Home in Calvert, Texas. She did many jobs and a few are, nurse aide, private sitting in Calvert and Bremond. Catherine loved everybody and was very friendly. Her civic duty was seen by working with Nancy Perkins Women’s Club and the Calvert Community Mass Choir. Her church was important and she held many positions, a Sunday School Teacher, Mission President, Sang in the Adult Choir, Youth Department at her church and Mother of the Church.

Pedro “Pete” Martinez Gomez, Jr.

Pedro “Pete” Martinez Gomez, Jr., 69, of Hearne, Texas, passed from this world on Friday, May 13, 2016. He was surrounded by his family before going to meet his Lord. Pete was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was born in Odem, Texas on June 06, 1946. His family would move to Hearne, Texas where he would begin work in the cotton fields of Goodland Farms for the next 16 years. He would soon meet Janie Lara and she would become his loving wife for almost 51 years when they married on July 24, 1965. Pete found employment at GATX Rail and finally retired there after 19 years. He would eventually open his own tire repair shop and operated Gomez & Sons Tire for more than 20 years before fully retiring and spending his days at home working around the house. Pete would find great joy in weekend barbecuing with his children and grandchildren or working on his backyard vegetable garden.

Charles Zene “C. Z.” Renfroe

The third son of Zenas Z. and Bertha Benson Renfroe, Charles Zene Renfroe was born January 25, 1929, in his Aunt Ibe Qualls home in Davidson, Tillman County, Oklahoma. Given the nickname ‘Corky’ after a popular comic-strip character, he leapt into life at full steam, often with a smile; he loved to laugh and enjoyed having fun in all things. His good sense of humor and zest for life followed him throughout his long and interesting life. Charles was a member of the Re-organized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, holding the priesthood office of Elder. A man of God, he lived his faith daily and remained a true and faithful servant in the beliefs and teachings of the original church to the very end. His education included an Assoc. of Arts degree from Graceland College, in Lamoni, Iowa, studies of pre-law at the University of Kansas, in Kansas City, Missouri, and a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters of Education degree from the University of Texas, in Austin, Texas.

Dale Charles Ackerman

Dale Charles Ackerman, 79, of Franklin passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at his home. He was born on June 23,1936 in Wellsburg, New York to Charles Herman Ackerman and Helen Borgeson Ackerman. He received his education at Southside High School in Elmira, New York. He married Helen Isabel Burt on November 24, 1954. Mr. Ackerman served in the United States Army from 1954 until his retirement in 1979. He served during the Vietnam War and many other places around the world. He had been a resident of Franklin for the past 2 months previously living in Bryan. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Franklin. He was preceded in death by his parents; Charles Herman Ackerman and Helen Borgeson Ackerman, Sister; Joann Zobel, Brother; Donald Ackerman, grandson; Danny Jones and son-in-law; James E. Wonders. He is survived by his wife; Helen I.

Donald Lee Cain

Funeral services for Donald Lee Cain, 76, of Livingston were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2016 in the Cochran Funeral Chapel in Livingston, with the Rev. Billy Bracken officiating. Military honors were provided by VFW Post 8568. Interment followed in Magnolia Hill Cemetery in Segno. A Masonic service was provided by Trinity Lodge 14 AF & AM. Visitation was held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston. Mr. Cain was born on August 12, 1939 in Segno, to William Henry Cain and Eva (Murphy) Cain, and died on April 12, 2016 in Livingston. He was a member of the Pineywoods Bird and Bloom Club and DMA (Don’t Mention Age). He was also a descendent of Elijah Cain and Abel Cain, who settled in Segno in the early 1850’s. He is preceded in death by his parents; William Henry Cain and Eva (Murphy) Cain, grandchild; Gregory Cain, brothers; Floyd Cain and Bobby Joe Cain, and sisters; Hazel Thomas, Ester Mae Stowe and Marie Bullock.
