Hal Baylor Carrington

Hal Baylor Carrington was born in Marquez, TX on April 4, 1924. He was the second son of Royle and Addie Baylor Carrington. He was a 1942 graduate of Marquez High School where he was a fighting Yellowjacket. It was during his freshman year of college at Baylor University, he made a decision that would forever define who he was. He enlisted in the army and became a staff sergeant in the air corps in World War II, stripping the Nazis of their ar resources in the months after the Normandy invasion. He flew high above Germany in the top turret of a B-26 bomber- the “widow-maker.” After V-day he spent some time in San Antonio, and in 1946 he made a decision that would change his life forever. Monroe Lamar Kizzee

Monroe Lamar Kizzee, 70, of Duncanville and formerly of Franklin passed away Sunday, November 2, 2014 at V.A. North Texas Health System in Dallas. Monroe Lamar Kizzee was
born to Ira and Nora Kizzee in Franklin, Texas. He accepted Christ into his life at an early age. Monroe attended Morgan High School in Franklin where he played basketball. He was the best player on the team. He later joined the U.S. Army where he received an honorable discharge. Monroe married Donell Knight Kizzee in October 1964. To this union one son was born, Kelvin Lamar Kizzee. He held a job as a taxi driver and was a skilled carpenter
by trade. His father, mother, and several brothers and sisters preceded Monroe in death.

Jessie Serna was born on November 12, 1927 to Augustine & Dorathea Serna in Madagorda, Texas. He was married to Beneralda for 45 years. He retired from Hearne Steel after 37 years of service. He will be missed dearly. He is gone to be with the Lord. He is preceded in death by, his wife of 45 years, Beneralda Serna, mother and father, 5 sisters and 3 brothers. He leaves behind a brother Manuel Serna, Sr. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Geralyn Marie Arcotta Gandy, 60, of Cameron, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014 at her
home. A gathering is set for Tuesday, November 11, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Hearne with a rosary to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Funeral
Mass is set for Wednesday, November 12, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hearne with burial to follow in Norwood Cemetery. Officiate was Father David Liebham. Pallbearers were Willard Johnson, Sam Anthony Cangemi, Lee Territo, Marcus Gandy, Chris Phillips, Brian Wallace, Clay Flanagan, and B. J. Ponzio. Geralyn was preceded in death by her parents, Brazos D. Arcotta and Josephine Cangemi Arcotta. Survivors include her husband, Billy Steve Gandy and
a son, Zachary A. Gandy, both of Cameron; and numerous other relatives. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Altar Society or Hospice Brazos Valley. Arrangements were entrusted to Heartfield-Ritter Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, the Former Rose Jean Roffino. Services are to be held on Friday October 17 at 3:30 P.m. at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Hearne, Texas.

Michael J. Esdorn

March 5, 1954 - October 5, 2014
Michael J. Esdorn, 60, of Calvert, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014. Visitation and Rosary were held Thursday, October 9, at Bremond Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was held Friday, October 10, at St. Mary Catholic Church with interment that followed in the church cemetery. Services were officiated by Father Richard Deedu. Pallbearers were Ken Harrell, Chris Wilganowski, Kenny Harrell, Ronny Ritter, Raymond Antis, and David Antis.

Mike served in the U.S. Navy. For his service to our country we honor him and thank him.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, John R. Esdorn and Valerie Skezypiec Esdorn.

Camill Altavine Grigg

Oct 9, 1934 - Oct 10, 2014 

Camill Altavine Grigg, 80, of Bremond, passed away Friday, October 10, 2014, one day after his 80th birthday.

A visitation was held Sunday, October 12, at Bremond Funeral Home. Funeral service was held Monday, October 13, also at Bremond Funeral Home. Interment was to follow at Nesbitt Cemetery near Bremond, but due to the inclement weather, interment was postponed until Wednesday, October 15. The service was officiated by Roger Maddox. Pallbearers were Larry Grigg, Joey Grigg, Jason Blackburn, Billy Blackburn, Franklin Wills and Adam Haveron.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cambra Bielamowicz; his parents, Rayman and Janie Moore Grigg; brothers. Jack Grigg, Cleddie Grigg, and Guy Grigg; and sister, Joy Jones.

Bertha Jane Nickelson Hammer

July 11, 1946 – October 12, 2014, died at her home in Stillwater, Oklahoma early Sunday morning, October 12,2014, after a long illness with MS. She was proceeded in death by her father Lad Nickelson, her mother Rebecca Rodgers Nickelson, her brother James Louis Nickelson and her husband of almost fifty years, Lawrence “Larry” Harold Hammer.

Jane was born in Franklin, Texas on July 11,1946. She graduated from Franklin High School with honors in 1964. Later, Jane graduated from Sam Houston Teachers College (Sam Houston University) with honors in Business Education. She met Larry at college. They married in the Franklin First Baptist Church in 1966. They both worked and studied at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Jane received her PhD from Indiana University in Business Communications.

Helen Bernice Stokely

Helen Bernice Oliver was born on January 25th, 1941 in Wister, Oklahoma, to Buford A. and Piralee (Nobles) Oliver. Helen spent her early years in Oklahoma, relocating to Texas in the mid 1950s. Many people remember Helen as the friendly, outgoing clerk at Cut Rate Grocery in Franklin, as well as the owner of Helen’s Game Room in Franklin in the early 1980s. In her later years, Helen was a kind and compassionate caretaker for the elderly in Robertson County.

Helen attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Hearne until recent years. She is remembered as loving all things antique, a true Elvis Presley fan and an excellent cook, as well as having a green thumb. Helen nurtured and shared her plants with many of the staff and residents of the Franklin Nursing Home during her stay there in the last few years.

Helen passed away at the St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, Texas, on September 26th, 2014.
