Alvin Louis Matejka

January 6, 1929-January 28, 2014
Alvin Louis Matejka 85, of Wheelock Texas passed away on January 28, 2014 in Bryan, Texas at 11:00 am. Services will be held at Five Points Baptist Church Friday January 31, 2014 at 10:00 am. Reverend Dana Altimore of Wheelock and Jerry Broadus of Hearne will be officiating.
Alvin was born January 6, 1929 in Wheelock, Texas to Louis A Matejka and Albina Wentrcek Matejka.
He received his education at Franklin High School in Franklin, Texas. He served in the Army for 2 years during the Korean War. After he left the military, he met and married the love of his life, Billie Jean McWilliams of Hearne, Texas. They were married on June 11, 1954 in Hearne, Texas. June 11, 2014 would have been their 60 Wedding Anniversary. Alvin retired from the United States Postal Service after 28 years of service. He went on to enjoy his retirement taking care of his cows, hunting, and fishing for the next 29 years.

Dorsey Gardner

Dorsey Gardner, 96, of College Station, passed away Sunday January 19, 2014. Visitation was held from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, January 24, at Glenn Mack Funeral Home in Hearne. A celebration of his life was set for 2 p.m. Saturday, January 25, at New Elam Missionary Baptist Church. Interment with full military honors was at Greater Riverside Cemetery in Hearne.
Dorsey was born September 18, 1917 in Hearne, Texas to Jessie Gardner and Willie Ann Wright. He graduated from Blackshear High School in Hearne before serving his country in WWII for six years.

Donald “Hubert” Smith

Donald “Hubert” Smith, 78, of Hearne, Texas passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 in Denton, Texas. He was born on January 3, 1936 in Robertson County to Russell D. and Lois Stark Smith. He attended Franklin High School and married Jeanetta Templeton on December 1, 1961. He retired in 1997 from the Texas Department of Transportation where he was employed for 34 years as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and was a life-long resident of Robertson County. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Howard Smith.
He is survived by:

Daughter and Son-n-law – Brandi and Jeff Bockemehl of Crossroads

Mary Nell Washington Walker

Mary Nell Washington Walker, 86 of Dallas passed away Friday January 17, 2014 at Dallas Methodist Hospital. Visitation was held from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday January 24, 2014 at Glenn Mack Funeral Home. A celebration of her life was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 25, 2014 at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, Hearne with Rev. James Crawford Eulogist. Interment was at Greater Riverside Cemetery.
Mary Nell Washington Walker was born on October 4, 1926 in Hearne, Texas. She was the oldest daughter of Carrie Washington Lacy and the granddaughter of Gus and Jennie Washington. Mary Nell received her formal education in Hearne ISD at Blackshear. Upon graduating from high school, Mary Nell moved to Dallas, Texas.

Sara Ruth Schultz

Sara Ruth Schultz, 48, of New Baden, Texas, passed away on January 28, 2014 at MD Anderson Center in Houston, Texas.
Sara was born on October 8, 1965, in Marlin, Texas, to Paul and Ruth Schultz of New Baden, Texas. Sara graduated from Franklin High School in 1984. She attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 1988 with a degree in Kinesiology. Sara taught and coached for many years in Bryan and College Station before moving to Franklin to teach and coach.
Sara is survived by her husband, Scott Anderson of New Baden; parents, Paul and Ruth Schultz of New Baden; siblings and spouses, Charles and Mary Schultz of New Baden; Steve Schultz of New Baden, Joe and Julie Schultz of College Station and Susan and Bud Nelson of New Baden; nine nieces and nephews; Kyle Schultz, Kevin Schultz, Kenzie Schultz, Derek Schultz, Kriston Schultz, Ashley Schultz, Allie Schultz, Maddie Nelson and Abbie Nelson; and many friends and colleagues.

Faye Flanagan

September 26, 1933 - January 16, 2014
Faye Flanagan of Calvert, Texas passed away on January 16, 2014 at the age of 80 after a long battle with cancer. A visitation and service was held at Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, January 17th from 5-7pm.
Faye is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ben Flanagan; two daughters, Deborah Flanagan and Terri Flanagan; and sister-in-law, Janice Wilganowski. She had a long career in Utilization Review, the antique business and loved to travel and play on the computer.
She was loved and will be missed by many.

Juanita Johnson Brown

Juanita Marie Johnson Brown, 87 of Hearne, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014 in College Station.
Visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday January 10, at Glenn Mack Funeral home.
Celebration of life was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Old Elam Baptist Church; Rev. F.C. Lewis III, pastor and officiante. Juanita was laid to rest at Greater Riverside Cemetery.
Juanita “Dear” Brown was born on October 4, 1926 to the parents of Henry and Dessie Johnson. To this union three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. One sister, Florence Bernice Johnson, of Bryan, Texas. She confessed Christ at an early age.

Florence Elizabeth Pierce

Florence Elizabeth Johnson Pierce, 77 of Hearne, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014 in Bryan. Visitation were held from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday January 10, 2014 at Glenn Mack Funeral Home. Celebration of life 2:00 p.m. Saturday January 11, 2014 at New Elam Baptist Church; Rev. Derron Robinson, officiante. Florence was laid to rest at Greater Riverside Cemetery.
Florence Elizabeth Pierce, daughter of Catherine Miles Mack, Lowell G. Mack, and James Eddie Johnson, was born April 24, 1936 in Robertson County, Texas.
Florence was a member of the Class of 1955 at Blackshear high School. She worked as a florist in Houston, Texas for many years. She was baptized by the late Rev. J.T. Harris at the New Elam Missionary Baptist Church. While in Houston, Texas she attended the Morning Star Baptist Church and other sanctuaries. She was a faithful, active member of New Elam until her health failed.

Mary Ethyl Burney Ely, 96, of Gause, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at
St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.
A visitation was held Friday, January 10, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Heartfield-Ritter Funeral Home in Hearne. Funeral service was Saturday, January 11, at 10:00 a.m. at Gause United Methodist Church in Gause. Burial followed in Gause Cemetery. Services were officiated by Pastor Kenneth Byrd of Gause United Methodist Church. Pallbearers were Keith Ely, Bobby Meline, Jordan Ely, Ryan Kleiber, Preston Loehr, Larry Collie, Nathan Bishop, and Todd Edwards.  
Mary was born in Riesel, Texas on March 21, 1917 to James Monroe Burney and Lela Wright Burney. She lived in the Gause area for 80 years. She was a member of Gause United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker.

Lillian Lucille Ferguson

A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday January 12, 2014 at Heartfield-Ritter Funeral Home.
She is survived by her son Edgar Leon Yeley Jr. of Conroe, Texas, her daughters and son-in-law, Peggy Parsons of New Braunfels, Texas, and Mary Rae and Robert Preston of New Braunfels, Texas, 12 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Lillian is preceded in death by her husband John Thomas Ferguson. Arrangements are entrusted to Heartfield-Ritter Funeral Home.
