C.R. Deal, Jr.

C. R. Deal, Jr., a long-time resident of Hearne, passed away at his home on July 26, 2013. Mr. Deal was born in Gustine, Texas on February 5, 1920 and was 93 years, 5 months, and 21 days of age. As a teenager, he moved with his family to the Maysfield area. There he met the love of his life, Anice Lucille Smith, and they were married on September 28, 1940. They moved to the Brazos bottom to start their family. In 1945, C. R. joined the United States Navy as a Seabee in the 23rd Construction Battalion and helped to rebuild the runways and roads on the island of Guam. After his return from his Navy duties, he owned and operated a retail repair shop for autos, trucks, tractors and any other mechanical equipment that needed refurbishing. In the late 1950s, he learned to fly and became a very accomplished pilot, working for many years for Corpora Aerial Service. During the off-season, he repaired and refurbished watches and antique clocks.

Edwin Sturgis Cook

Edwin Sturgis Cook, 64, passed away Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, after a brief illness.
Service: 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, in Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Visitation: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday in Laurel Land Memorial Chapel.
Edwin Sturgis was born February 27, 1949, in Franklin, TX, the son of Darlene Cook and the late John Cook.
Edwin was the assistant director in Fort Worth’s department of finance administration for 30 years. He retired from the city in April 2001. He also served on the board at the Fort Worth City Credit Union as secretary-treasurer for 18 years.
Edwin was an active member of many professional organizations including NAACP/ACTSO and COMPA. Edwin’s latest passion was antique cars, preferably the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. He was serving as the current president of the “Real Steel Rodders of Texas.”

Jerry Wilkinson

Jerry Wilkinson, 74, of Hearne, Texas passed peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2013 in Bryan, Texas. Jerry was born February 16, 1939 in Devol, Oklahoma, to Virgil and Edna Wilkinson. Graduated from Big Pasture High School, Randlett, Oklahoma in 1957, from there he served in the Army and the National Guard for 6 years. Then he became a Barber, moved to Carpentry and Welding, and in 1983 he started driving a truck for New Southwest Baking in Bryan, Texas where he retired. He loved to fish, work on his lawn and spend time with family. He was a member of Elliot Baptist Church.

Melion Luther Foster

Melion Luther Foster was born July 11, 1937,in Hearne, Texas the second of two children born to Judicious and Maggie foster, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother Odell (Sonny) Foster and his stepsister Phoebe Sapp. From an early age Melion was provided with a strong spiritual foundation.
Melion graduated from Blackshear High School in 1955, where he was an all around athlete who ran track, played football, and basketball. He served in the United State Navy. He enjoyed reading and researching history. He became a deacon in 2008 at True Light Missionary Baptist Church.
Melion leaves to mourn his wife of over 50 years Dorothy; children, Gloria Sims (George) of Houston, Marc Redmon of Hearne, and Kelvin Foster (Michelle) of Pearland; two sisters, Fannie Elam (John) of Hearne and Margaret Louise Christon of College Station; one brother, Kenneth Wayne Turner (Staci) of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Otis Wayne Hale

Otis Wayne Hale, 90, passed away Tuesday morning July 23 at his residence in San Antonio.
Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday July 27 at Franklin City Cemetery in Franklin.
Wayne was born October 5, 1922 in Franklin the son of Clarence and Lula (Lary) Hale. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during WWII as a medical technician in the European Theatre.
Wayne is preceded in death by his loving wife, Billie McBride Hale; daughter, Patricia Culver; brother, Calvin Hale and son-in-law, Dennis Bryant.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Keith and Robin Hale of San Antonio; daughter, Denise Bryant of College Station son-in-law, Lee Culver of Midland; grandchildren, Kimberly Culver, Timothy Culver and fiancé Cyndy Kersh, Garrett House and wife Kelly, Travis House, Matthew House, Hunter Hale and Hayden Hale; great-grandchildren, Aiden House and Emily Hale, Preston Culver, Mason and Kristian Kersh.

Eloise Hyson-Williams

Eloise Hyson-Williams, 85, of Franklin went to be with the Lord Wednesday July 10,2013 at Franklin Nursing Home.
Eloise Hyson-Williams was the 6th child of 7 children born to Willie Hyson and Minnie Cross on September 27, 1927 in Franklin Texas.
She attended Franklin, Texas public school. Eloise accepted Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of the church of God in Christ. Her participation in ministries included being a treasurer, church clerk, serving on the program committee, mission, food committee, and was a mighty prayer warrior.
Eloise was a homemaker and worked 17 years in the community as a great Home Health Care Provider. She was a faithful wife and devoted mother. She married O. C. Williams and mothered 13 children.
Preceding her in death was her father, mother, husband, one sister, five brothers, three daughters Carol, Mae Francis, Rosa Lee, Four sons Joe Carl, Winston, Osie Jr. and Roy Dell.

Janis Jo (Gresham) Wilkerson

Janis Jo (Gresham) Wilkerson was born November 1st 1934, in Port Arthur, Texas, the eighth of nine children of Kearby & Margie Gresham.  Janis graduated from Comanche High School in 1953 as Salutatorian.  She graduated from Port Arthur College’s Junior Bookkeeping and Clerical Department in 1954.  Janis was married to Gene Warren Wilkerson in 1957 in Houston, Texas.  After Gene graduated from the University of Texas they moved to New Jersey and both were employed by the Dupont Company in Parlin, NJ.  They had three sons and lived in the towns of Old Bridge and East Brunswick, NJ.

Jesse Everette Johnson

Jesse Everette Johnson, Jr., 77, of Bridgeport, Texas, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, in Decatur, Texas.  Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 2, 2013, in East Bridgeport Cemetery.  Melvin Castleberry will officiate.  Visitation is from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Monday, July 1, 2013 at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
Jesse was born June 9, 1936, in Fort Worth, Texas to Ola Maude (Greer) and Jesse Everette Johnson, Sr.  He was a quality controller who retired from Hanson Aggregates.  He served his country in the U. S. Air Force.  Jesse married Patsy Palmer on August 9, 1969 in Houston, Texas.  He was an avid football fan, especially Texas A&M.
