Brazos Valley Groundwater District General Manager Alan Day says that they have recently updated their ground water model. The BVGD put in $130,000 of $680,000 into the project.
The BVGD is currently checking 158 wells and last year 357 wells were measured. We have reduced the artisan head not the aquifer. Since 2000 the aquifer has only lowered 10.5%. Water pumping has went down in the last four years.
The grants still have the BVWaterSmart which is the current weather conditions in the Brazos Valley area footprint. This is 18 spots that collect data such as water collection and weather. The website for this information is www.bvwatersmart.tamu.edu.
On the well plug program the BVGCD had plugged 21 wells last year, costing the district $20,100. The district is paying 75% of cost up to $1000 of the total cost.
