Though the name was changed roughly 10 years ago, many still come to the newspaper asking for the Hearne Democrat. Reasoning aside, for 122 years that is just what your local newspaper was called and 10 years simply is not enough time to change the hearts and minds of Hearne residents.

“I get it,” said Dennis Phillips, current publisher of the newspaper for more than 6 years, “I really do, you grew up with the name, drive past it on the street, it is a part of the town history.”

The newspaper name was not changed by Phillips but instead by a company called American Consolidated Media (ACM) out of Australia, who had at the time purchased more than 110 locally owned newspapers in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Alabama.
