The new proposal for the Robertson County Jail and Sheriff’s Office has been turned in and presented to the Robertson County Commissioner’s Court.
The Jail facility proposal includes a 92 bed facility, a number that has increased since the original discussion. The added cells are specifically increased to handle female prisoners and did not effect the cost since the removal of a wall would expand the open bay style dorm cell space according to the commissioners.
While the exact date to begin construction has not been set in stone, according to the report package handout, April 15, 2019 has been earmark as the beginning of construction though subject to change.
Without soft cost figured into the total planning budget such as furniture, computers and like fixtures the project has an estimated $18,945,567 price tag. “We have $7,000,000.00 in reserves right now for the project,” said County Commissioner Keith Pettit during a brief phone interview last week. “A rough estimate after the reserve is $15,000,000.00 when you consider the soft cost involved.”
