This past weekend Teresa and I spent time among colleagues at the annual Winter Texas Press Association convention where we always have the opportunity to meet new vendors, talk with old friends and spend time surrounded by industry professionals.

It is often a learning and teaching experience and by that I mean new publishers and media personnel attend for the first time and old guys like myself share what we know.

Turn about being fair play, we middle aged guys get to sit with true veterans and not only hear of the war stories, but learn of how it was and what it is now.

Teresa and I had the opportunity to meet a true legend, Bob Schieffer from the CBS Network. A staple in American Journalism and core values of media ethics, it was a real honor to be inspired by such a man.

I left for the convention on a down note, having several community issues literally follow me all the way to Dallas. Checking in to the hotel I was still busy on my phone and my personal resolve had been zapped by the events of the week.
