William Douglas “Bill” Grigsby
Bill was born February 10, 1938 and passed away on January 14, 2017 in Houston at Cornerstone Hospital in Bellaire, Texas. He was raised in the Texas Panhandle and attended schools in Dalhart, Buenavista, and Phillips, Texas graduating from Amarillo High School, “a Sandy”. He attended both Vanderbilt University and the University of Texas receiving his degree in 1963. In 1964 he met Leila Louise Allen at a park in Midland, Texas, they married in 1965, had four children and lived in Houston until 1998 when they moved to her hometown of Calvert, Texas. Bill made lifelong friendships as a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He was a Life Member of the University of Texas Ex Students Assoc. and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He was President of the Post Oak Little League for two years overseeing the construction of and transition to the fields at their present location. He was an active member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston. In Calvert, Bill served on the Board and was President of the Calvert Country Club, a director of Robertson County Crime Stoppers, President of the City of Calvert EDC, and served as Municipal Judge. Bill was a real estate broker for 48 years and served as an officer and director of both the Houston and Bryan/ College Station Association of Realtors. He was proud of his service as a military policeman in the Texas 36th National Guard and in the Air Force Reserves. He loved hunting, fishing, golfing, the Longhorns, and living out his life in the country. He was preceded in death by his parents; Mary Williams and William Ballard Grigsby and his infant son; Douglas Gibson Grigsby. He will be forever in the hearts of his friends, especially his surviving family, his wife; Louise, son; William Stedman and his wife Ashley, and their son; Stedman Grigsby, of Houston; twin daughters; Alann and her husband, Steve Kuemmerer of Mtn. Rest, SC, and Leanna LaRoche of Lawton, OK and her daughter; Alix McAtee of Burlington, Vermont. The family will be receiving guests from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2017 at The Forest Club, 9950 Memorial Dr., Houston. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, at the Calvert Cemetery, 500 E. Burnitt St., Calvert, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Calvert Cemetery Assoc., Box 565, Calvert, The Calvert Senior Citizens Center, Box 241, Calvert, 77837, or a charity of your choice.
