Lillian Sadberry Smith Baker 89 of Forth Worth formerly of Hearne passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017 in Fort Worth. Visitation was held Friday, February 3, 2017 at Glenn Mack Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life honoring Lillian Smith Baker was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Old Elam Missionary Baptist Church. Rev Darrell Grear, Eulogist, assisted by: Rev. Anthony Ross, Rev. James E. Crawford, Rev. Jonathan Montgomery and Rev. F.C. Lewis III. Interment Hammond Colony Cemetery, Hearne, Texas. Lillian Sadberry Smith Baker was born March 28, 1927 to Jehu Henderson and Carrie Simpson Henderson. She was preceded by her parents; Jehu Henderson and Carrie Simpson Henderson, Siblings; Solomon Henderson, Vivian Williams and Jasper Henderson. Lillian attended Blackshear High School in Hearne. She acquired her Associate Degree at Mary Allen College in Crockett, Texas and a Bachelor of Arts from Huston Tillotson College in Austin, Texas. Lillian also attained her Master of Arts/Principal Certification at Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas. In Lillian’s career time she taught at Calvert Elementary School in Calvert, Texas, Somerville Elementary School Somerville, Texas, and Maysfield School in Maysfield, Texas. Lillian’s affiliations were being a Life Member of the Texas State Teachers Association, Robertson County Retired Teachers Association, Hearne Blackshear Alumni Association, Hammond Colony Cemetery Association, Grand Court Order of Calanthe, and Lake Erie Court No. 159. She was also a member of True Light Baptist Church, Hearne, Texas, Central District Congress Past Musician, Central District Association Mission I Past President, Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas State Worker, and Providence, Little River, North New Hope, True Light and Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Past Musician. Lillian Sadberry Smith Baker influenced generations of young people, and was a champion for their education. Her influence was also felt through out the community far and wide, and it can truly be said that she left every place better than she found it. She entered her rest Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at her daughter’s Ft. Worth home. Survivors include her daughter; Arquilla Sadberry Dove (Reverend O.R. Dove) of Ft. Worth, Texas. Granddaughter; Carrie Dove Stoica (Adi) of Buchrest, Romania, special niece; Janice Henderson Thomas (David) of Temple, Texas, and special niece; Betty Henderson Hall of Bryan, Texas, daughter-in-law; Lisa Baker of Mansfield, Texas, sister-in-law; Katie Henderson of Hearne, Texas, nieces, nephew, cousins, many former students in the district and community, and a vast number of friends.
