My take on the Hearne Forensic Audit
I want to address the elephant in the room first, how did the newspaper get the forensic audit when the council voted not to release it. The answer is simple. The moment the council accepted the report in an open meeting, the information became public information. Voting to withhold public information is not a lawful action. The council cannot vote to stop the constitutional right of freedom of press. Nor can they vote to attempt to circumvent the federal and state Open Records Act, which they tried to do in last Tuesday’s meetings.
