Jerry Mason Elliott
Jerry Mason Elliott, 70, of Hearne, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2017. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 8, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Hearne. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 9, at First Baptist Church, Hearne, with Brother James Hooper officiating. Burial will follow in Norwood Cemetery in Hearne. Arrangements are under the direction of McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin, Texas. Jerry was born on January 7, 1947 in Jacksonville, Texas to Forest Elliott and Ecie Mason Elliott. He graduated from Hearne High School in 1966. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1967 and served in Vietnam. After being injured he returned to the United States to complete his active duty. Shortly after returning home, Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Karan Russ, on June 26, 1971. He graduated from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas, in 1974, where he majored in Animal Science. Jerry and Karan had two children and returned home to Hearne, Texas, in 1983 to be closer to family. Being a resident of Hearne for the past 50 years, Jerry was well known and loved in his community. He was a master electrician and owned his own business, Hearne Electric. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Hearne, and was also an active member of the American Legion Post #454 where he served as Sergeant of Arms. Jerry was an avid backyard gardener and he loved sharing his produce with family and friends in the neighborhood. He loved hunting and fishing and cherished every minute he was able to spend with his grandchildren. The little things like watching them at their sporting events or having the opportunity to take his granddaughter, Lauren, driving brought so much joy to his life. He loved to hunt and fish, especially with his son, Jason. Anyone who knew Jerry knows that he was the most generous man anyone could ever know. Giving to others just made his heart happy. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Forest Elliott and Ecie Mason Elliott and his brother, Tom. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karan Russ Elliott of Hearne; son, Jason Elliott and wife, Katherine, of Conroe; daughter, Alison Elliott Boggan and husband, Brian, of College Station; brother, Scott Elliott of Bryan; 4 grandchildren, Cody Rushing, Hunter Elliott, Lauren Boggan and Jacob Boggan; 2 great grandchildren, Braxton Rushing and Henley Rushing; Mother in law, Betty Russ; Brothers in law, Bryan Russ, Jr., and wife Laura, and Charles Russ and wife, Mary; Sister in law, Becky Dayoc; and many cousins, nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
