Donnie Yvonne Luster

Donnie Yvonne Luster, formerly of Hearne, was reunited in heaven with the love of her life on Saturday, June 10, 2017 in her home in West Columbia, Texas where she had resided since 2012. Donnie was born to Oscar Burtis and Eva Estelle (Hamil) Dyer in Rockdale, Texas. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June15 at First Baptist Church in Hearne with a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Norwood Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ian Hollifield, Micah Luster, Mike Martine, Rodney O’Connor, Brian Russ, Jr. and Tommy Vanier. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Batson, David Cox, Ken Riels, Tommy Reynolds, and Doug Webb. Donnie graduated from Hearne High School in 1950, Valedictorian of her class. She married Charles Edward Luster September 2, 1950 and devoted her life to him and their three children, Denise, Stuart and Tracy. Donnie spent many years involved in her children’s school activities as a room mother, cheerleader, chauffer and supporter of band and athletic events. She was a member of the Shakespeare Club, Junior Music Lover’s Club, Hearne Garden Club and was church clerk and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church and a past president of the Hearne PTA; in which she was awarded a lifetime membership. Once the children were older, Donnie went to work at Hearne ISD and continued there for 13 years. She then answered her true calling as secretary at First Baptist Church, Hearne and served there for 16 years. Donnie was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Burtis and Eva Estelle (Hamil) Dyer and her husband, Charles of 60 years. She is survived by her children, Denise McGlone and husband Vince, Stuart Luster and wife Heidi, Tracy Dunbar and husband Dorr; grandchildren, Jenifer O’Connor and husband Rodney, Micah Luster and companion Elizabeth Cone, Ian Hollifield, Kaleigh Vanier and husband Tommy, Molly Kate Hollifield; great grand-children, Shaleigh and Kaidence Luster, Colin O’Connor, and Bryleigh Vanier. The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care provided Donnie by Kandace Russell and Delia Medina of Caring Senior Service of Brazoria County and the respect and compassion shown to her by the staff of A-MED Hospice, especially Carolyn Logan. Those wishing to remember Donnie, in lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest a donation to the Norwood Cemetery Association, First Baptist Church - Hearne, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Heartfield-Ritter Funeral Home.
