Verna May Mills
Verna May Mills, 89, returned to her heavenly home on July 28, 2017 after a valiant battle with an illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in this struggle and ultimately gave her peace. She was born to the late Charles and Velva Woods in Hoffland, Nebraska on August 27, 1927. Verna married Frank Mills and had 2 daughters, Carolyn and Leslie. She was a loving mother and wife, raising her daughters in Wichita, Kansas. During their retirement years, Verna and Frank resided in Franklin, Texas. Verna was a family first person. She was ready to give a hug and kiss at any moment and made sure you never went hungry, often making the best-fried chicken in Texas. She loved the simple things in life like traveling, fishing, bird watching, and most importantly spending time with her family. Her favorite traveling and camping spots were in South Dakota. She is survived by her youngest daughter, Leslie Fox; grandchildren, Kevin Gassen and Douglas Fox; and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Mills; her eldest daughter, Carolyn Gassen; and brother, Chuck Woods. There will be a small service at St. Francis Catholic Church in Franklin, Texas (time and date to be announced at a later time), with a small reception to follow at the St. Francis Parish Hall next to the Church. Deacon Louis Doriocort will officiate the service. The family gratefully declines flowers and donations, but prayers, condolences and memories are gladly accepted.
