A celebration of Life honoring Betty Simmons was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Progressive Baptist Church in Hearne with Rev. James Crawford, Eulogist and Rev. Walter Ward officiating. “As a true servant of God, Mother’s mission was to love and care for her family as she lived each day on earth in preparation for that Great Day when she would leave this earthly tabernacle to reside in the heavenly home. Always thinking of others, she prepared the following Life Story several years ago and removed the stress and guesswork from us, her survivors. The Family has chosen to include her life’s story and program just as she wrote it. I, Betty Simmons, was born on August 18, 1932 in Hearne, Texas. I am one of twelve children that was born to the union of the late Wesley and Blanche Adams. I received my formal education in Hearne Schools. As a young child, I attended and was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church until the age of thirteen. I then joined St. Paul Baptist Church and was a member there for many years. My grandson, the late Willis Adams, Jr. wanted me to be with him at Progressive so I joined Progressive Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Crawford. Mother’s writings end here but her service and commitment to family, friends, and the community continued until her health failed her completely. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Blanche Adams; six brothers, four sisters, one son, and a grandson. She leaves to cherish her memory: her sister and last sibling, Edna Davis of Hearne; four sons, Dwight Allen, Willis Adams (Eva) both of Hearne, Bobby Simmons (Cynthia) of Dallas and Darrell Overton of Dallas; two daughters, Julia R. Brown of Cypress, and Brigitte Adams of Hearne; daughter-in-law, Versa Allen of Hearne; thirty-five grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, twelve great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family. Betty Simmons was laid to rest at Greater Riverside Cemetery Hearne. Arrangement and care were entrusted to Glenn Mack Funeral Home, Hearne
