It has been a while since the Hearne Eagles were favored to be in contention in football so to find them picked to finish second in their district may be a surprise to some fans.
However, these Eagles are going to be as good as previously advertised. They have speed, size, and experience on their side and are playing a little angry.
They open with a strong test at home when they face the Centerville Tigers. The Tigers are picked to win their district and went 11-4 a year ago before bowing out in the State Semifinals. The returning group has experience back with six starters on each side of the ball.
The offense will be led by All-State prospect running back Brandon Madison who gained over 2500 yards last season.
With a strong offensive line featuring TE Daniel Byrd, OL Jose Hernandez, Connor Cox, and Korey Grisham he could be even better this coming season.
With talent at all three levels on defense the Tigers led by DL Byrd, and DBs Pate Leathers and Roland Davis, along with LB Cristin Zarate the Tigers will look to keep the Hearne offense bottled up.
The Eagles will counter with a strong offense that is balanced with both a good passing attack led by QB Jalen Gonzales, RB’s Ke-Andre Foley and Alex Davis, WR’s Edraeshion Tindle and Quinston Owens.
The offensive line has proven solid in the scrimmages and so has a strong Eagle defense led by DB AnQuan Boxley and Cedrion Golden and DL Victor Killebrew and Justin Camper.
The Eagles have looked impressive in their scrimmages against both Crawford and Franklin. Both opponents are considered playoff teams for 2017.
In both games the defense held a strong Crawford and Franklin offense in check for most of the night in their scrimmage. At no time in either game did the Eagles appear to be overmatched.
For Coach Sargent things are looking up and the Eagles continue to climb in their flight.
Big things could be on the horizon for the Eagles. So let’s all get out Friday and watch the Eagles take flight.
