FEMA..... What’s the deal?
Earlier this year, the City of Hearne made a deal with FEMA to temporarily become the primary distribution and repair center for trailers heading south to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey. FEMA came looking for a fast solution and we were able to accommodate their desire for speed.
Aptim, FEMAs contractor, signed a 6-month lease with the City of Hearne to use 100 acres of the airport. They were given a bid of $12,500 a month for 100 acres or $25,000 a month for 200 acres if needed. An initial payment of $75,000 was paid up front. Three other support companies chose to rent Hearne land as well. I actively recruited these businesses in order to increase employment, “heads in beds,” and other retail sales benefiting the City.
