Billy Charles Burleson
On August 29, 1942, a son was born to the late Hester Walker Massey in Hearne, Texas and she named him Billy Charles Burleson. At an early age, Billy confessed a hope in Christ, and was baptized under the leadership of the late Rev. S.M. Murphy at Old Elam Missionary Baptist Church in Hearne, Texas. Billy grew up in Hearne, Texas and attended Blackshear High School where he later graduated. In 1968 Billy married Iska Atchison at South Wesley A.M.E Church in Houston, Texas where they remained members. To this union, three children were born; Billy Jr., Stephanie and Torya. Later in life Billy and Iska adopted two girls Komna and Taylor. Billy was employed at U-Haul for several years, later worked for America Petco, which later became Morrow Equipment. He retired after 38 years. He is preceded in death by wife, Iska Atchison Burleson; son, Billy Jr.; mother, Hester Walker Massey; grandson, Kelston Bowie; three brothers, Eugene Treadwell, Sergeon Eugene Massey, and Thomas Earl Massey. Billy departed his journey on this side to enter the glorious kingdom of God on Saturday, December 9, 2017, after an extended illness. He leaves to cherish his memories four daughters, Stephanie Burleson, Torya Burleson, Koma Brack and Taylor Bowie all of Houston, Texas; three sisters, JoAnn Dawson (Lee) Dawson, Billy’s favorite brother - in - law of Lockhart, Texas, Helena Drake of Hearne, Texas, Marilyn Demerit of Bryan, Texas; other brother, Donald Ray Massey of Euless, Texas. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, many relatives, friends and classmates.
