Billy Marvin Gandy
Billy Marvin Gandy, 82, born April 9, 1936 in Hearne, Texas passed away peacefully at Brazos Valley Hospice Inpatient Facility, Bryan, Texas on July 26, 2018 with family by his side. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August, 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elliott Baptist Church with the local Masonic Lodge officiating with the assistance of Rev. Dale Wells and Pastor Michael Flanagan. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews: Zachary A. Gandy, Mathew K. Gandy, Marcus W. Gandy, Robert L. Gandy, James G. Gandy, James A. Gandy, Andy Berlan, Nick Berlan, Clay Flanagan, and Eric Gandy. Honorary pallbearers will be the Masonic Lodge # 361 members. He was the son of the late Thomas A. and Maybelle Gandy of Hearne, Texas. Billy was a long time member of Elliott Baptist Church. In 1953 Billy moved to Houston to work as a gas station attendant at Watson Oil. Other jobs he held while in Houston were working as a diesel mechanic at Stewart and Stevenson and then at Santa Fe Freight as a delivery driver. Billy made his way back to Hearne to work for Robertson Tank Lines, DSI Transport, Coastal Transport and then before retiring in 1991 he worked for Independent Distribution King Kohl. Billy was a truck driver for many years and he was awarded several Million Mile Plaques for safe driving. Billy was also a Masonry at Valley of the Orient in Houston in 1964. He was also a 32nd Degree (Scottish Rite)Master Mason with the Park Place Lodge in Houston. He was initiated September 12, 1963 and raised to Master Mason on November 27, 1963. He is also a member of the Hearne Lodge #361 which later united with Pierce Lodge # 144. Billy is a Life Member of 50 plus years. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas A. and Maybelle Gandy; brother, Thomas A. Gandy Jr.; the mother of his sons, Peggy Ann Wallace Gandy (1963); daughter-in-law, Geralyn Gandy; and his wife, of 49 years, Avis Cargle Gandy. Billy leaves his cherished memories to his sons, Billy Steve Gandy and his wife, Amy of Franklin, Texas, Marvin Keith Gandy and his wife, Dorothy of Hearne, Texas; step-daughter, Debbie Clark and husband, John David Clark of Cedar Creek, Texas; brothers, Willard Gandy and wife, Betty Jo of Greenville, Texas, Henry Gandy and wife, Sue Nell of Hearne, Texas; sister Delores Flanagan and husband Clayton of Denton, Texas; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Brazos Valley Hospice or to Elliott Baptist Church All arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home, Hearne, Texas.
