Doyle Anthony Allen Sr

Doyle Anthony Allen, Sr., 61, of Hearne passed away at St. Joseph Regional Health Center on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. Doyle was born in Hearne, Texas on Sunday, November 13, 1955 to John Burgess, Sr. and Betty Lee Adams. He attended Hearne schools where he met and married the apple of his eye, Versa Smith on May 11, 1970. He worked various jobs and soon became known to everyone as the man to be able to fix the “impossible” with only a few tools for “a little of nothing.” His early formative Christian years were spent at the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. He later united with the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend James Crawford. Doyle’s survivors include his wife, Versa Smith-Allen; his sons, Doyle Anthony Allen Jr., Eddie Allen, Derrick Walker; his daughters, Demetria Allen, Kimberly Allen, Nette Brown and husband, Bruce, Demetra Williams and husband, Rodney, Cheniqua Johnson; brothers, Bobbie G. Simmons and wife, Cynthia, Willis C. Adams Sr. and wife, Eva, Darrell L. Overton, Alan Dwight Allen Sr., and John Burgess Jr.; sisters, Julia R. Brown, Bridgette Adams, JoAnn Burgess; brothers-in-law, Rev. W.R. Smith Sr. and wife, Anna, Clarence Smith Jr.; sisters-in-law, Judy Trotty, Rita Smith, Edna Green and husband, William; aunt, Edna Davis; 22 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A visitation was held Friday, July 28, at Heartfield-Ritter Funeral Home. A Homegoing Celebration was held Saturday, July 29, at Progressive Baptist Church with Reverend James Crawford, Reverend Bobby Pride, Pastor W.R. Smith, and Reverend R. Jackson officiating. Pallbearers were Bruce Brown Jr., Clifton Lewis, Octavious Williams, Alan Dwight Allen Jr., Kenneth Adams, John Albert Davis, Michael Brown, Luis Padilla, Dewonald Moffitt. Honorary Pallbearers were Doyle Allen Jr., Derrick Walker, Eddie Allen, Alan Dwight Allen Sr., Bobbie Simmons, Willis Adams Sr., Darrell Overton, and John Burgess Jr. Arrangements entrusted to Heartfield-Ritter Funeral Home.
