Evelyn Catherine Lehman Zeig, age 93, passed away at her home in Hearne, Texas on January 28, 2017. A visitation service was held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2017 at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne, followed by a rosary by Father David Leibham. A burial mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hearne, Texas was held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2017. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Evelyn was born January 31, 1923 in Wilson, Texas, Falls County, to Katie and Frank Lehman, the second of ten children. She grew up and attended school in Westphalia, Texas. Evelyn married Leo Zeig in 1946. The couple moved to Hearne, Texas in 1948. There they raised a family of six children. Evelyn participated in the raising of her children in the community serving as a cub scout, Boy Scout, Girl Scout, and a cadet scout leader. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Church Altar Society for over sixty-five years, where she was recently enrolled in the Clerical Endowment Fund for her years of service. Evelyn was a talented seamstress sewing clothing and quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is especially known for her design and sewing talent in making high quality, hand-quilted quilts her entire life. She won thirteen ribbons for quilts entered in the Houston Fat Stock Show placing Honorable Mention to Blue ribbon for every quilt entered. She donated many of her quilts to churches, hospitals and Scotty’s House. Evelyn was an avid gardener who was known for her lovely flowerbeds filled with daylilies, irises, and many flowing plants. Evelyn was proceeded in death by her parents; Katie and Frank Lehman, her husband; Leo Joseph Zeig, four brothers; Leo Lehman, Gilbert Lehman, Louis Lehman, and Kenneth Lehman and one sister; Alberta Goertz. She is survived by her brother; George Lehman and her sisters; Beatrice Langford, Catherine Lindeman, and Judy Adams. She is survived by her sons; James Zeig and wife Madeline, Dennis Zeig and wife Sharon, Marvin Zeig and wife Sharon, Larry Zeig and wife Nanette and John Zeig and Robert, and daughter; Frances Zeig, and sixteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren.
