Martha Anne Harris
Martha Anne Harris found peace in the Lord on April 2, 2019 after a long struggle with dementia.
She was born on May 25, 1935 in Robertson County, Texas where she lived her whole life. She graduated from Hearne High School in 1951 and married her high school sweetheart, Bubba Harris, with whom she raised 3 sons and
celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Martha Anne worked at Wilson Brother’s Department Store, then First State Bank and then East Side Elementary while raising her young family as well as being a great “baseball mom” to her boys. She even served as the Secretary Treasurer of the Hearne Little League for many years while her husband coached and her boys played.
One of her highest joys in life was music. She had a beautiful alto singing voice and was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church, Hearne choir where she also sang solo, duet and ensemble pieces. Some of her most memorable performances where when she sang with her brother Charles Luster.
After raising three boys, she was then blessed with four granddaughters and four grandsons who called her Mam. She was a devoted and active grandmother who was always ready to read a book, sing a song or do a puzzle with grandkids. Whether it was reading “the tractor book” (an equipment catalog) or singing some George Strait.
Martha Anne loved to cook and made the best red velvet cake and buttermilk pies. She gardened for years and canned pickles and picante sauce for the whole family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bubba Harris; parents, Roland and Mary Ella Luster; her brother, Charles and sister-in-law, Donnie; brother, Roy and sister-in-law, Doris; and grandsons, Chad and Matthew Harris.
Martha Anne is survived by three sons and their families, Glenn and Kathy Harris and their daughters, Kirby Harris, Morgan and Ashley Harris, Steve and Karin Harris and their daughter, Carly and Eric Loewen, Neal Harris and his daughter, Heather Francis and his sons, Canton Harris and Cade Harris. She has many nieces and nephews that she loved.
