Rev. Oliver Wendell “O.W.” Mack
Reverend Oliver Wendell “O.W” Mack, 93 was born on January 29, 1924 and a native of Hearne, Texas transitioned from this life into the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 in Beaumont, Texas. A life and Home Going Celebration was set for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church in Beaumont. Interment was held Monday, October 9, 2017 at the Greater Riverside Cemetery in Hearne. In his young adult years, Rev. Mack served proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII and returned to work as a printer at the Hearne Democrat. He later received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Prairie View A&M University and completed additional course work at Texas A&M University. While at Prairie View, he began dating hoe “sweetheart”, Vina Ella Blocker Mack, to whom he was married for 65 years. For over 30 years, Rev. Mack worked in the Hearne Independent School District (HISD) as a classroom teacher and as the Assistant Principal of Hearne High School. He served on the HISD School Board for 18 years. After serving faithfully for 46 years as the Pastor of New Elm Missionary Baptist Church in Hearne, Rev. Mack retired from his pastorate in 2006. He was preceded in death by his wife, Visa Ella Blocker Mack; and his son, Rev. Oliver D. Mack. Rev, Mack leaves a legacy of love and wisdom to his son, Rev. Delbert Mack Sr. (Alpha Denise); daughters, Vineta Cook (Frank), Naomi Lockett (Samuel), Roslyn Ward (Walter), and Mabris Blue; daughterin- law, Janice Price Mack, fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
