Richard Allan Blaney
Richard Allan Blaney, 69 of College Station, Texas lost his long and courageous battle with multiple myeloma (bone and blood cancer) on March 4, 2017, while in the wonderful care of the Hospice Care Unit at the VA in Temple, Texas, surrounded by his family. Richard was born in Sweetsburg, Cowansville, and QC, Canada to the late John and Goldie (Prentice) Blaney on August 3, 1947. Richard served in the United States Army and was in combat in the Vietnam War in 1968-1969. Richard retired from the military after 23 years of service. He also worked in Rockdale, Texas for many years as a heavy equipment mechanic for TXU and ALCOA. Richard enjoyed his participation and friendship of those in the Vietnam Veterans Association, the College Station Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. Richard loved to read, enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, and working on automobiles or helping others with their cars. Richard and Jean Blaney were married and had three daughters; Judge Cherami Blaney Jenkins and husband, Ryan of Fort Worth, Texas, Donna Blaney Sessums and husband, Billy of Calvert, Texas, and Stephanie Lynn Blaney of College Station, Texas. He is survived by his wife, children, and three grandchildren, Crandall and Victoria Jenkins of Fort Worth and Bryant Sessums of Calvert. Richard is preceded in death by his brother; William “Billy” Blaney. He is survived by brothers; Robert Blaney and friend, Joanne Getty, of Sheldon, VT, Randall Blaney and his wife, Mary of Richford, VT, John Blaney and friend, Deb of Berkshire, VT, and one sister, Elizabeth Blaney Brown and husband, Ken of Richford, VT. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. Richard’s family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Temple VA Hospital and Community Living Center for their wonderful care and attention during this difficult time. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hillier Funeral Home in College Station, Texas on Friday, March 10, 2017. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hillier Funeral Home in College Station, Texas. Interment will be held at the Aggie Field of Honor.
