Ruth Lee Heardmon was born on January 1, 1929 in Wellborn, Texas to the late Willie Lee and Odessa Heardmon. She was ushered into the presence of her Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at the Legacy Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Bryan, Texas.

Ruth, affectionally known as “Mama Ruth” graduated from Blackshear High School on May 28th, Class of 1947. Ruth and her classmates truly bonded and she was very happy to attend their 50th high school reunion in 1997.

She was reared in a Christian home and joined St. Mark Baptist at an early age. She then accepted the Lord as her personal Saviour in 1961, after attending a revival the Church of God in Christ, under Pastor J.R. Delly. She learned many things about the bible and “right living”. She served in many capacities in the church over the years. She served as a usher, choir member, Sunday School teacher, secretary and on the board of finnance. She loved going to church with her two son in laws; Bishop M.C. Williams (Wanda) of Endtime Church in Bryan, Texas and Pastor Robert Smith (Odessa) of Word of Truth in Kilgore, Texas. Mother Ruth had a dear friend and neighbor that she traveled to church and shopped with, Mrs. JoAnn Moody and referred to her fondly as her “Hearne daughter”.

Ruth worked numerous jobs in Hearne and in College Station and had many friends throughout the community before she retired from Texas A&M in 1992. She enjoyed traveling and being a member of local organizations, such as the NAACP.

Cherishing her memory are her children, Robert Heardmon (Frances), Odessa Smith (Pastor Robert Smith), Linda Dorsey (Dwight), Wanda Williams (Bishop M.C. Williams) and Barbara Lee (Curtis); grandchildren, Torrance Heardmon, Kihara Dorsey-Nathan, Dr. Samuel Heardmon, David Lee, Daniel Lee, Melvin (Barachiel) Williams, Elijah Smith and Joseph Williams.

She was a Kingdom Saint and now she is a “Celestial Intercessor!” We know God is well pleased. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” Ruth was preceded in death by her sister Ruby, a son Roy Lee and her grandson Robert Alexander Heardmon.
