Sandyr Mitchell Scarmardo

Sandyr Mitchell Scarmardo, 85, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center with family by his side.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 23 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017 with a rosary service at 6:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Sandyr was born September 1, 1931 in Bryan the son of James M. and Mary (DiMaria) Scarmardo. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army and his name is honorably engraved on the wall at Veterans Park in College Station.

Sandyr was a lifetime member of St. Anthony’s Church and participated in many ministries and Eucharistic Adorations. He was an honorary member for over fifty years with the Knights of Columbus. In addition to his membership with St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, he attended church services with his wife, Ruth at Central Baptist Church.

Sandyr served on the school board for Caldwell ISD for 25 years.

Sandyr is preceded in death by his parents; James M. and Mary (DiMaria) Scarmardo, mother of his children, Minnie Scarmardo; brother, Luke “Junior” Scarmardo; and a grandson, Garrett Maliska.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Scarmardo; his children and their spouses, Jim Scarmardo, Jeff and Becky Scarmardo, Judy and Keith Comeaux, Jeanine Scarmardo, Janet and Ronnie Spivey; Ruth’s children and their spouses, Randy and Judy Malazzo, Rick and Sharon Malazzo, Leisa and Dr. Stan Maliska, Leanne and Jay Drgac; brother and sister-in-law, Marion “Red” and Angie Scarmardo; sister, Pauline Restivo; sister-in-law and brother- in-law, Mildred and Johnny Ricca; grandchildren, Mandy and Michael Stark, Christy and Grant Widener, Christopher and Katherine Scarmardo, Calvin “Mitch” Scarmardo, Lyndsey Comeaux, Marian Comeaux, Kala and Kevin Homeier, Kirk and Katie Hartsell, Kody Boyd and fiancé Scarlet Spikes, Kameron Boyd, Jacob Spivey, Jared Spivey, Josh Spivey, Brittney Scarmardo, Meredith Malazzo Simpson, Rejy and Tara Bacchus, Ryan and Hailey Maliska, Tara and Jason Venhaus, Garrett Maliska (deceased), Kiel Malazzo, Travis Malazzo, Matthew Malazzo, Colbert Drgac, Erin Drgac and Leisa Drgac; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Kelsey, Collin, Landri, Mattie, Rylee, Lily, Leah, Cailey, Joli, Zachary, Marley, Fallon, Connor, Grayson, Cambree Jo, Ellie, Adam, Adlyn and Thomas; special friends, Joe and Maryann Reina; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Building fund or Central Baptist Church.
