Walter L. Lyon
Walter Leonard Lyon, 99, of Bremond, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family. A graveside service with military honors performed by VFW Hearne and Bryan Posts was held Saturday, February 4, at 1:00 p.m. at Heard’s Prairie Cemetery near Bremond. Walter was born September 24, 1917 in Kosse, Texas to George Washington Lyon and Mary Lewis Powers Lyon. He was a graduate of Kosse High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 67th Armored Regiment under General Patton. He married Bobbie Rogers Lyon, and together, they raised 4 daughters. Until his retirement, he was a pipeliner and chief inspector for Louisiana Interstate Gas Company. Walter’s number one priority was providing for his family. His family describes him as hardworking, honorable, and an excellent example for others - the kind of man that made this country. Walter was preceded in death by his loving wife; Bobbie Lyon, on July 16, 2014, his parents; George Washington Lyon and Mary Lewis Powers Lyon, his daughter; Mellissa Autrey, brothers; George Wilson Lyon and Bill Lyon, sisters; Mary Helen Lyon and Francis Lyon. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law; Dorothy and J.P. Morgan, Sherron Mayfield, Jeane and Nicky Ward, Betty Kinney, brother; Cecil Lyon, Grandchildren; Trudy, Shannon, Lynn, Brian, Dusty, and Ronnie, 19 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and close friends. Arrangements were entrusted to Heartfield-Ritter Funeral Home.
