That’s it, the end of the regular season, and the Hearne Eagles have finished undefeated in District and the number 1 seed heading into the playoffs this week.

The Eagles used a balanced attack of ground and air to blow past Moody last Friday scoring in all 4 quarters. In the first quarter, the Eagles put up 21 unanswered points, Moody never stood a chance. Scoring for the Eagles continued to be unanswered until Moody found the endzone on a pass play in the 4th quarter.

The Eagles gained 325 total yards, 179 passing, and 146 rushing yards holding Moody to just 110 combined yards on the night.

Maxpreps, a site devoted to high school football continues to undervalue the Hearne Eagles as they face off with Grapelan Friday night. Grapeland is 6-4 and a 4th seat at the playoff table, however, Maxpreps has Grapeland picked to defeat the Eagles, a foolish pick if you ask this reporter.

It is obvious that Maxpreps uses math and not heart to pick the games and it is also obvious that the powers that be at Maxpreps do not watch games, or they would know better.

So despite their computer-generated predictions, my pick is 45-13 for the Eagles and that is not just a bias pick (well, maybe a little).

My pick for the game is based on the fact that the Eagles have been undervalued all season and this is an advantage for the boys. It is also based on the hard-hitting defense and the offensive line.

The O Line has kept (QB) Micah Smith protected all season and that massive front 5 is not about to let up now. Excellent pass protection and run blocking from this group of athletes.

The defense is a complete package, keeping the Eagles in excellent field position and getting the ball back into the hands of a very high-powered offense.

With a victory, the Eagles will see Shelbyville or Beckville next week.

The Eagles travel to Trinity this Friday night to meet the Grapeland Sandies, good luck to our boys. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
