No easy out for the Eagles
The Hearne Eagles basketball team may have entered the playoffs as the last seed from their district but they proved they were no easy out for anyone. Being the 4th seed meant they drew the number #1 seed from the other district. That meant in the Bi-District round on Tuesday, they met the Groesbeck Goats. In a hard fought back and forth match the Eagles pulled off the improbable upset 68- 67 over Groesbeck. Strong defense down the stretch and some timely baskets allowed the Eagles to come away with the win.
The victory propelled the team into the Area round against the Teague Lions on Friday at MCC in Waco. It was another hard fought game only this time the Eagles came up on the short end of a 74-68 final score. It was another in a series of close defeats for the Eagles this basketball season. Although their season comes to an end no one can deny the fight and resilience the team has demonstrated. The Eagles were also rewarded with district honors in football for the past year. Honored for their play this season were Offensive Newcomer of the Year sophomore quarterback, Micah Smith; and Defensive Newcomer of Year sophomore, Quinston Owens
