City looks to add to wastewater treatment plant for GATX use
On Tuesday, June 16, City Manager John Naron presented a plan to the city council for a wastewater treatment plant project for GATX wastewater.
The project, with a $2.5 million budget, will pre-treat the wastewater in a three-stage system and then move through the already existing pipeline to the water treatment plant. The first phase of the project has been approved by the city council, moving it forward.
The first phase will consist of testing the threestage treatment system for the first six months. The process will consist of weekly tests of the water, to ensure the chemicals are effective and the removal of contaminants is working properly.
After the first six months, if the system is successful, the city will reevaluate the system and its projected revenue. The project will also save on energy costs, around $.04 a kw, which will decrease spending and increase savings over time.
