Blackjack Fish Fry Serves Up Support for Local Firefighters

Roy McCoy roy@robconews.com Robertson County News GAUSE — Gause Baptist Church is taking its youth fundraiser to the golf course this summer, inviting golfers, church families and community supporters to spend a Saturday morning playing for a purpose. The church will host its 1st Annual Youth Group Fundraiser Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 13, at Caldwell Municipal Golf Course, 150 FM 2726 in Caldwell. Check-in will run from 7 to 7:45 a.m., with a shotgun start set for 8 a.m. The tournament will be played as a four-person scramble, giving teams a relaxed format that works well for regular golfers and those who are mostly there to enjoy the morning and support a good cause. The entry fee is $400 per team. The fundraiser will help support the church’s youth group and provide resources for young people connected to the ministry. In a post promoting the tournament, Gause Baptist invited players of all ages and skill levels to take part, making the event as much about fellowship as competition. For Gause Baptist, the tournament is another way for the congregation to invest in the next generation. The church has deep roots in Milam County, dating back to 1877, and has long been part of the Gause community. The day is expected to bring teams together for golf, friendly competition and community support. Whether players are chasing birdies, saving par or just hoping to keep the ball out of the rough, each team’s entry will go toward helping the youth group continue its work. RC urges state action as data center expands

Jada B. Terry Jada@robconews.com Robertson County News FRANKLIN— With data center development accelerating across rural Texas, county officials are turning to state lawmakers in an effort to slow expansion and strengthen local oversight. County leaders have drafted and approved a petition seeking legislative support to address the potential long-term impacts of data center development. The petition raises concerns related to public safety, infrastructure, agriculture, land use, financial costs, and regulations. As discussions surrounding data center development continue, local residents are beginning to voice their own questions and concerns about the industry’s rapid growth, among them Garrett Baker. “I think an issue this big definitely deserves the whole community’s input, not just the commissioners. A lot of people don’t know enough about the data centers, myself included, so I think it’s important to learn as much as we can to find out if this is a positive or a negative outcome,” said Baker. Similar concerns are emerging beyond Robertson County such as Ellis, Jeff Davis, Floyd, and Hunt, just to name a few, prompting other local leaders to adopt their own resolution to navigate this issue. Commissioners hope the petition will give state leaders time to establish regulations and provide counties with tools to manage data center development while protecting local resources, infrastructure, and residents.
