Jeff Fest is this weekend

HEARNE — The community is gearing up for a high-energy, heartfelt event with the upcoming Pony Express Jeff Fest, hosted by Pony Express Bar & Grill on Sunday, April 27, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 302 S. Magnolia St. in Hearne. This exciting fundraiser promises great food, live music, and a powerful purpose—supporting beloved community member Jeff Munson Sr. with his medical expenses. The event centers around a delicious southern-style fish plate special for just $20. Each plate comes loaded with fried fish, pinto beans, fries, coleslaw, hushpuppies, and sweet tea—classic comfort food sure to draw a crowd. All proceeds from food sales will go directly toward helping Jeff Munson Sr., and additional donations are welcome and encouraged. But Jeff Fest is about more than a great meal. It’s also a celebration of community, music, and generosity. The stage will come alive with free live music, featuring a special unplugged set from local favorites Off the Grid and performances by Road Kings and Rob Conn. This lineup guarantees a toe-tapping good time for all ages, bringing together friends, families, and neighbors for an afternoon of rhythm and unity. The event organizers encourage everyone—from lifelong residents to first-time visitors—to come out, enjoy the food, enjoy the music, and, most importantly, show their support. “This is more than just a fundraiser,” said Andy Berlan, owner of Pony Express Bar & Grill. “It’s a way to rally around someone who has given so much to this community. Let’s pack the place and let Jeff know he’s not alone.” The atmosphere is expected to be festive and welcoming, with unique flourishes like themed graphics, motorcycles, and even a few friendly aliens, adding a whimsical touch to the day’s meaningful mission. Whether you’re coming for the catfish, staying for the strumming guitars, or simply showing up to show your love, Pony Express Jeff Fest is set to be one of Hearne’s most memorable community events of the year. So mark your calendar, bring your appetite, and don’t miss the chance to be part of something special. For more information or to contribute, head to Pony Express Bar & Grill this Sunday and join the celebration.

CALVERT — On Earth Day, community members in Calvert are celebrating more than the planet—they’re honoring the revitalization of their historic downtown. With renewed momentum to preserve and re-purpose aging buildings, the heart of Calvert is seeing a fresh wave of restoration. The movement began gaining traction in 2018 when Jason Moss completed a full renovation of a historic property in the 400 block of South Main Street. His work was timed to coincide with Calvert’s 150th Anniversary Celebration and sparked new interest in preserving the town’s architectural heritage. Today, that energy continues to grow. Local residents Brenda Van De Walle and Harold Maris have joined Moss in his efforts, collaborating on a new construction project that blends preservation with progress. Their work highlights the importance of honoring history while making space for future use and business. “It’s exciting to see this kind of investment and passion coming back to Main Street,” Moss said. “These buildings are part of Calvert’s story, and saving them helps keep that story alive.” As Calvert embraces Earth Day with a spirit of renewal, the restoration of its historic district stands as a testament to community pride and the power of preservation.
