Preteens Invited to Unforgettable Identity Camp in Franklin

FRANKLIN — First Baptist Church Franklin is gearing up to host Identity Preteen Camp, promising local youth three unforgettable nights of adventure, connection and spiritual growth before the school year begins. The camp is designed for preteens ready to laugh, run, worship and discover more about who they are in God’s eyes. Participants can expect high-energy games that keep them moving, live worship that gets everyone singing and powerful messages that help them understand what it means to be known, loved and chosen. The camp also provides plenty of opportunities to make new friends and share moments that matter in a safe, welcoming environment. Identity Preteen Camp is more than just another summer activity — it’s a back-to-school sendoff that helps kids build confidence, strengthen their faith and make memories that will last all year. Parents are encouraged to mark their calendars and sign up soon, as spots are expected to fill quickly. Kids are welcome to bring friends along for an even bigger adventure. Franklin 4th of July on July 2

ROBERTSON COUNTY — As Independence Day celebrations get underway, local leaders are reminding everyone to enjoy fireworks safely, drive responsibly, and watch for pedestrians in residential areas. Robertson County Judge Joe David Scarpinato has officially rescinded the Order Prohibiting Certain Fireworks in the unincorporated areas of Robertson County, which was approved by Commissioners Court on June 10, 2025. This means residents outside city limits may legally light fireworks for the holiday — but safety remains the top priority. Within city limits, rules vary. The cities of Calvert and Hearne both prohibit discharging fireworks inside city limits except for approved public displays. Hearne residents can instead enjoy a city-sponsored fireworks show at East Side Park on July 4. The City of Franklin — which allows fireworks inside city limits only for July 4 and December 31 — is hosting a community fireworks display on July 2 at The Ranch. Selling fireworks inside Franklin’s city limits remains prohibited. The City of Bremond also bans fireworks within city limits and encourages residents to attend a professional show in nearby Kosse, Texas. When lighting fireworks at home, always use a flat, clear surface away from dry grass, homes and vehicles. Never allow young children to handle fireworks and keep a bucket of water or hose nearby in case of stray sparks. Pet owners should secure dogs, cats and other animals, as fireworks often cause extreme stress and may lead to injuries. Road safety is equally critical. The Fourth of July is one of the most dangerous holidays for alcohol-related crashes in Texas. Each year, more than 400 people die statewide in drunk driving crashes — many during holiday weekends. If you plan to drink, arrange for a sober ride home. A DWI arrest can result in steep fines, jail time and the loss of your license. Drivers are also urged to slow down and stay alert for pedestrians — especially in neighborhoods where families may be walking to local fireworks shows. Celebrate responsibly, watch out for your neighbors, and let’s make sure everyone gets home safe this Fourth of July.
