Roy McCoy roy@robconews.com Robertson County News GEORGETOWN — Franklin is headed back to the state championship game. The Lions punched their ticket Friday night with a 6-0 win over Jourdanton at Georgetown East View, completing a two-game sweep in the UIL Class 3A Division II state semifinals. Franklin opened the series Thursday with a 9-0 victory, then followed it with another shutout performance Friday to leave no doubt. Over two games, the Lions outscored Jourdanton 15-0 and controlled the series from start to finish. Franklin wasted little time setting the tone in Game 2. The Lions pushed across four runs in the bottom of the first inning, giving their pitching staff an early cushion and putting Jourdanton in a hole it never escaped. From there, Franklin leaned on the same formula that has carried the Lions all season — strong pitching, steady defense and timely hitting. Jourdanton managed just four hits Friday night, while Franklin kept pressure on throughout the game and added insurance runs late. The win improved Franklin to 35-2-2 on the season and continued a strong late-season run. The Lions have now won 20 of their last 21 games, with many of those wins coming in convincing fashion. Franklin has been especially tough on the mound during that stretch, giving up fewer than two runs per game on average. That pitching strength showed again in Georgetown, where the Lions shut out Jourdanton in back-to-back games with a trip to the state title game on the line. The victory also gives Franklin a chance to add another chapter to what has already become one of the best stretches in program history. The Lions won their first baseball state championship in 2024 and now have an opportunity to return to the top of Class 3A Division II. Franklin will face Paradise at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at Dell Diamond in Round Rock for the state championship. With one more win, the Lions can bring another state title home to Franklin.
